The ANU Mountaineering Club is Canberra's biggest and most active outdoors club. We are a community of students, graduates, public servants and more, who all have in common a passion for the outdoors and being active in adventure sports and other outdoor activities. Members of the ANUMC are able to participate in trips, free weekly events such as climbing nights at the ANU gym and kayaking on the lake and can hire a huge variety of gear from our gear store at very low hire rates. In addition, members receive support from the Club to participate in advanced training and skills sessions, competitions and can access discounts at many Canberra outdoor stores.
The club and its members regularly organise and participate in a variety of trips including bushwalking, canyoning, climbing, kayaking, mountaineering, mountain biking, rogaining/orienteering, ski touring and snow-shoeing. There is also an active calendar of social events throughout the year including BBQs, dinners, adventure film nights, presentations/slide nights from famous and not-so famous adventurers, and the infamous 'Cocktails at the Castle' trip. For more information see:
Throughout the week there are organised climbing, kayaking, mountain-biking and running sessions held on and around the ANU campus and other nearby locations. These sessions cater to a range of abilities and are a great way to learn some new skills and work on your fitness during the week with a smaller time commitment than participating in the longer trips the club also runs. See the weekly events page for more information.
Indoor climbing wall
Club members get free access to the indoor climbing wall at the ANUMC both at club climbing nights on Monday and Wednesday evenings, and designated off-peak times at other times of day throughout the week. On club nights you can also get free access to climbing harnesses and shoes if you don't have your own. See the climbing section of the weekly events page for more information
The club maintains a gear store which gives members and other trip participants access to gear and gear hire at low rates. The gear store is open twice per week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout most of the year. See the gear store pages for more information.
