I will be running a session of a few hours to discuss many of the aspects associated with leading trips. Topics will include:
- Trip planning, posting the trip, managing signups, pre-trip, running the trip - briefing, monitoring the group, group dynamics and roles, incident management, overall risk management
- Examples/case studies of actual trips and challenges encountered
There is a lot to cover, so if needed it may be extended over a few sessions but will see how we go with the first one. This is suitable for all club members (even if you are not trip leading, it is good to understand what goes into planning and running trips) - but is particularly relevant to those interested in leading but that may not yet have the confidence to do so. Note that I won't be covering too many activity specific technical skills (navigation, anchor setting, rope skills etc) - these are best left to dedicated sessions.
Following this session the club committee can assist to pair prospective leaders up with more experienced leaders to mentor you through the running of your first trip(s). Location details to be confirmed once semester has gone back.
In the meantime if you have any questions please email.
