BME - Blue Mountains Extravaganza

Trip type:

The Blue Mountains Extravaganza is a yearly event which focuses on beginner canyoning, climbing and bushwalking. Held over the Canberra Day long weekend, this year's BME will be based out of Cathedral Campground Mount Wilson in the Blue Mountains. The campground is free, has drop toilets and a rainwater tank (not suitable for drinking). Transport is by shared vehicle - we'll be putting together a transport plan once people start signing up)

A number of trips will be run each day for new and existing members. The bushwalking, canyoning and climbing trips are posted separately on the trip calendar. Because of the technical nature of canyoning and climbing there will be an expectation that new members undertake rope training in the lead up to the BME, and stick with that activity for the duration of the weekend.

Technical aspects apart, the BME is a great event to socialise and get to know other club members in one of the most beautiful parts of Australia. For the camp out participants will need:

  • Tent (one between two)
  • Sleeping bag
  • Thermal mat
  • Torch/headlamp
  • Stove and cooking gear (recommend sharing)
  • Clothes (including for adverse weather)
  • Toiletries (including toilet paper)
  • Meals (3 x breakfast, lunch, dinner)
  • Water (minimum 5L)

~$50 for fuel
