I will be organising some workshops in self rescue aimed at climbers. It will consist of weekly sessions at the climbing wall for around 4 weeks. Some possible topics are
1. knots, prussiks and ascending
2. locking off, ascending, moving between ascending and descending, abseiling past a knot
3. sport anchors
4. basic pulleys
5. escaping the system, lowering with device in auto-lock mode,
6. rescue spider, rescuing a climber that can't be lowered, improvising,
although it is unlikely that we'll fit all of this in.
Prerequisites: You must be a competent sport leader and know how to clean. I don't care how hard you climb (probably harder than me). Additional climbing and rope experience is great. I will tailor the content to the participants. I will be sending out pre-reading each week. It's expected that you spend around 30min-1hr/week on this, in addition to the sessions at the climbing wall.
Sign up is an EOI only. Please detail your climbing experience and rope skills when you sign up. (Some things to think about: - how much leading have you done (roughly), - do you have any trad experience and if so how much, - do you have any multipitch experience - do you have any relevant canyoning/mountaineering experience, - have you set up a sports anchor before, - do you know how to top belay, - do you know what I mean by each of the topics and if so, do you already know how to do them.) Also let me know your availability for Monday and Friday evenings in March and the first half of April.
This is not an instruction course. I am not a professional. I'm just some guy who has done a bit of this stuff before. I'm happy to share what I know but I make no guarantees of its accuracy. Listen at your own risk and always use your best judgment before attempting anything.
