This is suitable for riders of intermediate level and can be completed on Mountain bikes, Road bikes or Cyclo Cross bikes. You must be self-sufficient and proficient at changing tyres should the need arise.

Suitable for Road, Mountain or Cyclo cross bikes.

This is assuming you already own a bike. At this point, we're still reviewing bike hire options for students without a bike.

[Please leave a comment on your cycling experience. Must be able to cycle a minimum of 20 km without stopping or strain]

Tyre selection is important

Standard road bike tyres are 23mm wide with 25mm tyres becoming increasingly popular as well. I’d recommend something in a 25mm option if at all possible — the extra width seems to provide extra grip on the rough surface. If your frame will allow you to fit tyres even wider than 25mm then that’s not a bad option either.

[….]If you’re going to stick with a 23mm tyre, go for something that’s a little thicker and/or grippier than your regular road slicks.

I did my first bike packing trip from Canberra to Goulburn return last year. My partner wrote an article of his experience in the article below.
