This 16 km long walk will take us to the summit of 1500 m high Mt Domain. It will be suitable for fit participants who are capable of completing longer day walks in mountainous terrain and are prepared to walk off track for a large amount of the trip.
Currently the plan is to start walking from Fishing Gap Car Park in Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve along a fire trail to Fishing Gap over ~4.5 km and gaining 300 m in elevation. From fishing gap we will follow a faint footpad on the ridge line North through ~2.5 km of scrub to the summit of Mt Domain gaining a further 400 m vertical.
Depending on time available, we may continue along the more scrubby Northern ridge line for another 3.3 km to Snow Corner Cairn before following a footpad descending a spur to the West for 1.5 km to the Lyrebird Trail. We will then follow the Lyrebird Trail to Mountain Creek Carpark and then join Ashbrook Road Fire Trail for 4 km back to the Car.
Before you sign up
If I haven't walked with you before, please give me a brief outline of your bushwalking experience otherwise I will cancel your registration. A large portion this trip will be offtrack through potentially thick scrub so ensure you are comfortable walking off track and have suitable footwear e.g. trail runners or hiking boots. The weather can be very poor in the mountains and as a result I will cancel the trip if there is considerable rain in the forecast which can make some of the rocky parts of the walk very slippery.
Also please let me know if you are willing to drive another car when signing up. I will drive one car so having more than 5 participants will be conditional on whether or not another car is available. I will be sending an email around Saturday to confirm participants and the meeting place.
