Beginner Moutaineering skills at blue lake/ main range

This trip is for anyone with some experience hiking and/ or rock climbing who is keen to lean some new skills and spend time in the snow. 

it is necessary for trip attendees to have a solid level of fitness and experience on multi-day hikes in tough terrain. 

The Plan 

Leave from ANU sport at 5am Saturday 10th oct, drive to Guthega, from there walk/ ski/ snowshoe to blue lake. once at blue lake practice crampon technique, self arrest/ self belay and placing protection in snow and ice. 

Then leave blue lake to set up camp (most likely at Twynam saddle). on the second day we can either return to blue lake or go to the sentinel/ Watsons crags before retuning back to Guthega. 

 

When signing up for this trip please include detains of past experience. 

more places may become available in this trip if more people with experience in the backcountry join who are willing to teach and another driver signs up.

petrol costs ($40 -$50ish) per car and gear hire.
