*** All money must be given at the pre trip and failure to attained will result in removal ***
Mount Arapiles is the Mecca of climbing in Australia and without a doubt my favorite place to climb. I plan to head back there over the double long weekend and sample again the magic that is Araps.
If you have never been there before and wondering why is it so good ....
Perfect orange rock that's as solid as granite that's made for natural gear placements of nuts, RP's and hexes and hardly a bolt to be seen.
So many amazing routes at any grade. My favourite climb there (Tip toe ridge) is a grade 3. You could spend 3 months there only climbing star'ed routes no matter how hard or easy you climb.
Multi pitch or single pitch, so many options.
Great weather (well okay .. except in the middle of summer).
Friendly campsite (the pines) full of people from all over the world brought together with their love of climbing.
5 minutes walks from the campsite to the crag.
The plan will be to spend a day/night driving each way from Canberra to Natty (possibly stopping at Greens lake aprox half way to camp depending on drivers) and stop in at Horsham to fill up on Groceries etc then set up camp before/during sunset. The following days will be mixing up the pairs and everyone going out to whatever crags of climbs they have in mind. Perhaps meeting back at camp for lunch or perhaps not. Then meeting back up at camp to cook dinner and maybe enjoy a glass of wine and some stories of everyone's adventures for the day.
As this is a trad climbing trip all lead climbers will need to have solid trad leading experience in either single pitch / multi pitch and leaders be able to be self sufficient in managing themselves and all aspects of their group safety.
Seconders will need to have a base of experience and be able to apply that to trad single pitch and multi pitch. People will need their own climbing safety equipment, harness, helmets, safety slings and prussiks. Note the grades at Araps are hard for the grade in addition to placing/removing natural gear so take that into consideration but in saying that there is so many grades at all levels so there is plenty of fun to be had a the lower grades. Bard, Siren, Arachnus, Spiral Staircase Eskimo Nell and Conifer crack immediately spring to mind.
**Please let me know your climbing experience when signing up. This is important. If you don't include your experience when signing up I will assume you haven't read the trip description and you will be removed from the trip. **
There is no drinking water at araps so u must bring your own/ buy some there enough to last a few days as we will not be driving to town every day, hence u will need to bring cooking equipment too
You will only need to bring personal climbing gear which includes:
climbing harness
climbing shoes
helmet (must have this)
chalk is useful
locking carabiner
Trad rack
autolocking belay device if you have one but we will have hired the clubs ones for the trip (don't buy one if you haven't already as we will go over some useful information about them)
insect repellent
sunscreen
Tent
other camping gear
Esky
10 L WATER
Cooking equipment
Most of the above can be hired from the gear store. You'll also need to bring food and water for the day.
As always trip leader retains the right to determine who attains this trip
