A day walk along the famous track used by farmers carrying their corn to the coast. This walk descends from the mountains to the thick rainforest at the bottom of Monga national park.
Trip plan:
7:00 am: leave from the SRA balls at ANU
Have breakfast in Braidwood, and continue on to the trackhead just inside Monga national park, getting to the trackhead a little after 8:30, and allowing an hour and a half for the car shuffle. We'll leave a car at the base of the track, just before No Name Mountain Rd crosses the Buckenbowra River. Ideally walking just after 10:00.
Over the next 6 hours we'll cover 12km, and descend about 700 m, into lush rainforest.
From there we'll head back up to Canberra, estimated return around 9pm.
Trip will be dependent on having enough vehicles to complete the car shuffle. Ideally we want enough room to fit everyone in the car(s) at the bottom so we don't have to repeat the car shuffle at the end.
Trip is suitable to most walkers, but be prepared for rough terrain and some river crossings. Bring good sturdy boots, lunch, 2l water, high-energy snacks, and a torch + warm clothing in case we need to make it to the car park after dark. If you're new to the club or haven't been on many hikes before please let me know your experience so I can make sure you're prepared.
