***Note I will cancel this trip if the weather looks very poor over the weekend e.g. heavy rain/snow or strong winds since we will be driving on dirt roads for ~50 km.
This medium 2 day hike will take us from New South Wales in the Northern end of Kosciuszko NP to the highest mountain in the ACT, Bimberi Peak, via Oldfields hut. It is roughly a 21 km hike with a variety of landscapes culminating with the beautiful sub-alpine summit of Bimberi. It is suitable for relatively fit participants with some overnight bushwalking experience willing to walk offtrack (6 km).
The first day will have a fairly lengthy 3 hour drive to the end of Pockets Saddle Road where we will start. It is 7.5 km to Murrays Gap and a further 3 km of offtrack walking to the summit of Bimberi. We will either camp around Bimberi or at Oldfields Hut after ascending Bimberi. The next day will be a 10.5 km walk back to cars. The walking is mostly on a dirt/grass track but has a nice 3 km offtrack section on a grass footpad up to the summit of Bimberi. Optionally depending on the groups pace, we could also ascend Mt Murray which is next to Bimberi and would only add 2 km but would be offtrack like Bimberi.
Other Details
As with any trip in the high country the weather can be unpredictable with strong winds, rain and freak snowfall. Please give me a brief outline of your overnight bushwalking experience when signing up if I haven't met you.
Also please let me know if you are willing to drive as we will need another car (I will drive the other). This will be my first time leading a trip so it will be co-led by Andy and I.
