Canyon Leader Skills 2020 - Abseil practice

PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP TO THIS ACTIVITY UNLESS YOU ARE PART OF THE CANYON LEADER 2020 SKILLS GROUP

We'll meet at the Kambah Centenary Trail and walk to Red Rocks Gorge Lookout and run through abseiling drills, skills and knowledge including:

• Anchor setup


• Single and double rope abseil


• Tying off (ATC, Figure 8)


• Self belay (Klemheist, Valdotain Tresse)


• Supervision


• Club policies 

Personal equipment

• Harness


• Belay device


• 2 locking carabiners


• 120cm x 5mm prusik cord


• 60cm sling or PAS

Let me know if you need any gear. I will take care of group equipment.

Before attending please brush up on:

• Tying Figure 8 on-a-bight, rethreaded figure 8, alpine butterfly, double fishermans and water knots


• ABCDEF checks


• Abseiling calls


• ANUMC Canyoning guiding principles
