Have you always wanted to learn to lead climb, clip bolts like a pro or send sports climb like Adam Ondra? This is the trip for you!
This trip will be an introduction to sports climbing with emphasis on learning all the necessary skills required to confidentially climb outdoors including but not limited to:
- Lead Belaying and Rope Skills
- Clipping Draws
- Building Temporary Anchors
- Removing/Cleaning gear from a route
The Plan:
Leave ANU sport at 8am on Sunday, drive 45 to Snake rock and climb until mid afternoon. The approach is a 20 minute walk, but is fairly steep and involves a river crossing so bring decent shoes. Aim to be back at ANU sport late afternoon/early evening before it gets too cold
Here's the link to the crag site in case you want to check out some routes beforehand: https://www.thecrag.com/climbing/australia/gibraltar-peak-and-corin-road-crags/snake-rock
Pre-Departure:
We will have a pre-trip meeting on the Thursday at 5:45pm outside ANU Sport after which we'll hire any gear you may require when the gear shed opens. At a minimum this will include:
- Helmet
- Harness
- Climbing Shoes (If you know your shoe size before hand it will really help)
- Personal Safety Sling
What to bring:
- Approx 1.5L of water
- Food for lunch and snacks
- Warm layers
- Hat + Sunscreen
- Climbing Chalk (if you have any)
- A positive attitude
