Archived trip from old website run by Kate Ferguson
Hi All it's time to get the club climbing season started.
We will be heading to Nowra for some beginner training. This trip is open to people who have never climbed outdoors before or are new to climbing outdoors and want to perfect their skills. We will be setting up top ropes on the easier climbs and teaching people to belay outdoors. For those that are keen we will cover how to lead climb and lead belaying.
If people came on my last beginner trip we can also cover some more advanced outdoor skills such as cleaning routes if we think you are ready.
**Please let me know your climbing experience when signing up. This is important. If you don't include your experience when signing up I will assume you haven't read the trip description and you will be removed from the trip. **
Nowra is a 2-2.5 hour drive away. We will be heading to Thompson's Point and climbing at Descent Gully Wall. The climbs are an easy 5min walk in. The grades range from 11 up.
Meet outside the SRA on Sunday at 7:50am to leave at 8am and return by around 8pm.
There will be no Pretrip.
You will only need to bring personal climbing gear which includes:
climbing harness
climbing shoes
helmet (must have this)
chalk is useful
locking carabiner
autolocking belay device if you have one but we will have hired the clubs ones for the trip (don't buy one if you haven't already as we will go over some useful information about them)
insect repellent
sunscreen
Most of the above can be hired from the gear store. You'll also need to bring food and water for the day.
We will leave the SRA at 8am and go to Thompson's point and climb at the descent gully wall.
