Love kayaking and surfing? Feel like combining the two?
I'll be heading to the coast somewhere near Batemans Bay (final location being weather dependent) on Saturday morning for a day of trying to surf in white water kayaks. We'll drive down reasonably early on Saturday morning to make the most out of the day. After being thrown around in the waves for a few hours, we'll grab some fish and chips for lunch before jumping back into the waves. Once we're all thoroughly exhausted, we'll load the kayaks back onto the car and return to Canberra in the late afternoon to wash down the gear and head home.
Surf kayaking is a great way to practice white water kayaking skills in a reasonably safe environment (compared with learning in a rapid, which is scary), but participants will need to be comfortable swimming through surf and reasonably familiar with kayaks. All participants should be able to roll a kayak (or at least to roll sometimes, even if not always successfully).
If I haven't paddled with you before, please include some information about your skill level in the comments section.
We will be in phone reception throughout the trip, and will inform our safety contact which beach we're travelling to. We'll be at a beach with low surf to reduce risk to participants, and numbers will be limited.
Malte Wilmes will also be on the trip.
