Archived trip from old website run by madnicko
The canyoning season is in full swing, and by now you've probably seen a few exciting trips on the calendar. From Devil's Pinch and Nightmare at Newnes last weekend, to Waterdragon and the inauspicously named Bowens Creek North Branch Lower at Mt Wilson, the club's canyoners have been heading into the Blue Mountains whenever time permits. But the exciting trips last weekend all had something in common, they weren't beginner-friendly. Most canyons we do are easier than Nightmare, but how do you get into canyoning if you need to have the skills before you do your first one?
Come along to a skills workshop, of course. The workshop will consist of three sessions. Two evening sessions will be spent looking at gear and practicing abseil techniques in the controlled environment of the club climbing wall. Then a day spent putting it all into practice, building anchors and trusting your weight to them while abseiling and prusiking at the picturesque Gibraltar Falls, just outside Canberra. Afterwards, we'll retire for some relaxing pizzas and bevvies to wind down from the day.
Please include any information about your general evening availability in the registration comments, so that we can plan accordingly.
