An overnight walk to the jewel of the Budawangs! (The crown too, if we are being whimsical)
The Castle walk is already a classic walk that the club does at least yearly, offering great scrambles and magnificent views.
Now you can double your money and also see Monolith valley which has rock arches, overhung cliffs and a canyon section- the "green room".
AND we will be leaving on SATURDAY not Friday night, so those of you prone to working late nights can come too.
We will depart early Saturday morning from Canberra, making our way to the Long Gully camp ground (the roads are a bit rough, so don't bring your mums Prado!)
From there we take Kalianna ridge up to Castle saddle, dropping our packs at the Cooyoyo camp before scrambling up the Castle.
You don't need rock climbing experience here as the scrambles are short and we will bring hand lines.
If we gain the summit early enough there will be time to attempt Mt Nibelung, a 4hr round trip which has good views back to the Castle.
On Sunday we will go into Monolith valley via Nibelung pass. First we will climb up an interesting sounding slot onto Shrouded gods for morning tea
followed by a return to the valley then travelling as far north as we can (hopefully to the green room- wake up early people!), before returning to
pack up camp and descend the ridge.
Pretrip will be Thurs 26th, 6pm at the gear store.
Total distance will be about 20-25km depending on side trips.
Ascent/Descent: at least 1600m
Grade:
-Walking on tracks/Mild bush bashing
-Moderate scrambles with handlines
Bring:
-overnight camping gear
-raincoat
-headtorch
-daypack

Roughly we will follow the notes in Doughton p27
