Backcountry skiing up Guthega creek.
This trip is posted in anticipation of snow of which there is currently very little, the actual date of the trip will depend on the arrival of snow.
The Guthega creek area has some great intermediate terrain for back country skiing and snowboarding starting 1 km from the Guthega car park.
This trip will provide an intro to BC riding. It is suited to strong intermediate riders who can get down most black runs comfortably. The terrain would be mostly blue in a resort with options to access some steeper aspects. However, the snow conditions, lack of ski patrol or grooming means a stronger ability is required.
In terms of gear AT skis, telemark skis or spilt boards would be best however snow boards with snow shoes would be fine and downhill skis with snow shoes would work but you'll work hard. Once everyone is familiar with the area we may be able to split into smaller groups to do laps so those that want to move faster and do more laps can do so.
We will camp in the snow at Guthega creek, about 1 km from the car park. Snow camping is not necessarily more difficult than camping on dry ground it but does have higher consequences if things go wrong. As such experience camping, using a stove and so on is a prerequisite.
In the comments section please provide information on your regarding your camping experience, skiing or riding ability and the ski/snowboard gear you plan to use. If you do not know I can help you with deciding on hire options.
