*Update - we'll now be meeting up with the group doing the lessons in the afternoon. There will be one place available on this trip to fill our car*
It looks like the Perisher trails have started to be groomed, and hopefully the trail out to Porcupine Rocks will also be set before the weekend.
This trip will be a day trip, and limited to 5 participants. We will leave ANU (or arrange pick ups on the way) at 5:30am with the aim to be through the Jindabyne roundabout at 7am to avoid the traffic. We will drive to the Perisher Ski Resort and leave the cars in the main carpark. The plan will be to head out on the Nordic trails for a couple of hours in the morning, return to the Nordic Shelter at lunch, and then head out on a short tour up to Porcupine Rocks via the trail and returning through the valley to come back to the Nordic Shelter. Depending on the weather and the ability of the group, we may choose to head out on the tour in the morning and return mid-late afternoon, and have lunch out on the trail.
Please note that ski/boot availability may be limited this weekend, given the Saturday day trip, and the ski lessons. Priority will be given to the ski lessons, and the Saturday trip (having been posted first).
You will need to bring:
Thermal layer (wool or polypro)
Mid layer (wool or fleece)
Waterproof pants/jacket*
Gloves
Sunglasses
Sunscreen
Hat
Beanie
Warm socks
Water
Food
Skis (and velcro tabs)
Stocks
Boots
The intended plan will be to ski the Perisher x-country trails in the morning, and to ski out to Porcupine rocks in the afternoon. If the group is confident, we may head straight out to Porcupine Rocks, and do some turning practice on the surrounding hills, depending on conditions and snow cover.
All partcipants will have suitable clothing, and the leader will carry an additional warm layer and insulated sleeping mat in the case of an emergency. There will be mobile phone reception and we will not be heading out of sight of the Perisher resort, or the road to Charlotte pass. In the event of an emergency we will be able to call for help, or travel to the Charlotte pass road to get a message through.
