Archived trip from old website run by Mark Euston
A telemark skiing trip to the Guthega River valley. We'll be starting at Guthega carpark on Saturday morning and skiing with overnight gear up the valley where we'll set up camp. From there we'll skin up various slopes and tele ski back down, snow camp on the Saturday night, do some more skiing on Sunday (perhaps even going to the top of Mt Tate if people are capable) and then heading out Sunday afternoon.
This trip is suitable for first time snow campers, but not suitable for first time skiers. People that are new to skiing and looking to improve would be better off going on Richard's night skiing trip (http://anumc.org.au/node/472). We'll only be travelling 2km (with 60m vertical) before setting up camp but it will be with packs, which new skiers find a bit difficult, so first-timers will have a pretty awful time. Someone that's an intermediate downhill skier but hasn't used cross country skis before could probably manage - leave a comment if you're not sure of your ability.
Signing up doesn't guarantee you a place on this trip. I won't be driving from Canberra so car spaces will probably be the limiting factor. Please let me know if you have a car and how many people you can take (including skis and packs) when signing up.
As in trip description. Probably ski the eastern side of the valley on Saturday and Mt Tate on Sunday. Plan to be heading out by 2pm on Sunday and back at carpark by 3pm.
