With a forecast of temperatures tickling the low 20's this coming weekend, and a surplus supply of local oysters in need of some attention, what better excuse do we have to head down to Pambula for a relaxing weekend of paddling...... oh, and we plan to pick up the shiny new kayak trailer too.
I plan to travel with kayaks on Friday afternoon around 4pm, arriving at Pambula some 3.5hrs later. You can either travel with me or depart early on Saturday morning (at around 6am I suggest). We will lodge or camp in tents at the Discovery Holiday Park, Pambula on both Friday and Saturday nights. We can take a range of kayaks for sea and lake paddling and also a few whitewater kayaks for playing in the surf. Kayak surfing at the beach is a great way to build your kayaking skills in a friendly, sandy, rock/rapid free environment. Start in the small waves close to the shoreline and in no time you will be heading out the back looking for some more exciting action.
At this time of year both the camp ground and the beach are pretty quiet. The marsupials outnumber any other mammal by far. You can opt to camp in your tent for around $34 per site or share in a range of cabin accommodations that won't be much more expensive, depending on numbers participating. Search for details on the Park to see your options before the pretrip on Thursday at the shed at 5:30pm.
We will load the kayaks on my trailer at the pretrip.
Depart from Canberra at 4pm for Pambula on Friday afternoon. Lodge or camp at the Discovery Holiday Park, Pambula Beach. Pick up new kayak trailer on Saturday morning at 0930. Spend the day either sea or lake paddling or surfing, depending on conditions and preference of the group. Stay overnight at same and paddle or surf on Sunday till around 2-3pm. Return to shed by 1830.
