So it's that time of year again, the MONT 24 hr mtb race 2016 is coming up on 2-3 April and I'm looking to organise a (couple) teams from ANUMC. What is the MONT 24 exactly? A weekend of bike loving fun with a few thousand of your closest friends, some great trails, live entertainment, craft beers and as much guilt-free food as you can stomach...what else could you want? Here are some highlights from 2015 https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=780788718695860&permPage=1
We would enter as either teams of 4 or 6 (aka six-packs) in the Open - Male, Female, Mixed categories. Entry fees at $180 per person (unless we organise an all female team, which is $150 per person). We will be eligible for ANUMC completion funding http://anumc.org.au/members/anumc-funding. TL;DR subsidy of $60 for students and $40 non-students, so entry costs will be $120 per person (students), $140 per person (non-students). Depending on who and how many are keen, we can split into a team going for gold and the more social rollers. Ultimately though, the aim is to have fun! Aim is to enter teams by the 10th March. I will update this event with teams and team members after that date.
The course this year is at Kowen Forest and I'll be running some mtb trips there so we can get familiar with the tracks. If you're keen on competing, then you'll need to come on at least one of these, ideally we'd go as a group.
For those who don't want to compete but want to come and cheer us on throughout the race, we'd love to see you. I apologize in advance if you come at 4:00 am and find everyone except the rider laying comatose amidst a bunch of bikes we were trying to repair...would make an amusing picture though!
What you'll need:
- A suitable mountain bike
- MTBA Approved helmet
- Suitable bike lights (more on this later)
- puncture repair kit
- Camping equipment
- Food
- Water
- A good sense of humor
This will be my first MONT 24hr (and first race really) but if you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them.
