Walk from Old Yaouk to the summit of Mount Bimberi to see sunrise. Start at walking just before midnight to complete the 20 km and 1100m vert to the summit in time for the 6:00am sunrise. Have some breakfast and walk back. Should be back at the cars by about 2pm. We will follows the lone pine fire and the Murray saddle trails. It's about 40km and 1400m vertical ascent total. https://vimeo.com/90437029.
If it looks like the weather will block the sunrise we'll delay the trip.
In the additional details section please give some sense that you know how far/hard this is and that you are comfortable starting such a walk.
The trip will be limited to 12 people.
Gear:
Walking clothing and shoes
Wind/rain jacket
Down jacket/insulated jacket, fleece (+ pants if needed) for while we wait for sunrise (it will be around 0 degrees).
Beenie
Hat, sunnies and sunscreen
Personal blister gear
20-30L pack
2*1L water bottles (there will be water along the way but it should be treated)
Headtorch with 7 hours of battery at least + backup
Museli bars/scroggin enough for 12 hours of fast paced walking.
Breakfast food (I'll bring a Jetboil for hot water for instant oats and a coffee press)
This trip should serve as excellent sleep deprivation training for the Mont, pity it is the weekend after.
Walk from Old Yaouk (intersection of lone pine fire trail and Kennedys road) to Bimberi summit. We will follows the lone pine fire, then the Murray gap trail and then the footpad to the top. Our return will depend on the energy levels in the group, once we return to Murray saddle we will decide whether to continue via Mount Murray then the ridge line to Yaouk gap, Murray gap trail to Yauok trail or the way we came via lone pine trail.
