The ever popular cooking show Masterchef takes to the bush! That's right folks - ANUMC will be running its own camping stove based masterchef competition as part of an easy overnight walk through the lovely Gudgenby Valley.
The Walk:
An afternoon start (approx 1.45pm from ANU, 3pm from the carpark) with a short easy 5km stroll from the carpark on the Old Boboyan Road along fire trails to the quaint Frank and Jacks Hut, where we will set up camp for the evening. There is a pit toilet at the hut.
Masterchef:
Dinner will be a competitive affair - masterchef style! The rules are:
- You must carry in all food, stove, cooking equipment. If you can carry it you can bring and use it!
- Time limit of 1 hour for preparation, cooking and serving up
- You must cook on a camping stove (only one stove allowed per person)
- You must prepare enough for everyone to taste - all participants will be asked to score each dish on presentation and taste. Note the trip will be limited to 8 max.
The walk out:
The next morning we will start on some fire trails before heading off track (easy) through grasslands headed for the base of Yankee Hat, where there is some aboriginal rock art. Distance back to the cars is only about 7kms so a very easy affair. We may check out the old Gudgenby Cottage on the way out. Expect to return to Canberra early - mid afternoon.
This trip is suitable for beginner walkers, although it will help if you are comfortable cooking on a stove!
To Frank and Jacks hut via fire trails, camp, continue on fire trails past Frank and Jacks then off track to rock art below Yankee Hat then on track back to the carpark.
