Archived trip from old website run by Richard Salmons
* Update: This trip has become very popular now that we are expecting snow... but you can put your name on a waiting list*
Let's start the season - if snow arrives early! - with a warm-up day at Selwyn Snowfields. Selwyn is a small ski resort which is a good place to improve technique at a moderate cost. The idea is to practice on the ski runs in our cross-country (XC) ski gear (using chairlifts to go back up hill, of course). Then when you go on an actual cross-country trip, you will be confident with the "skiing downhill" part.
This trip will be perfect if you have skied a few times 'downhill', but not XC (fine if it's your first trip with the club), or alternatively if you've come on our skiing trips in past seasons but would like to improve your skills (by all means contact me if unsure). If you are a good downhill skier, you should become comfortable fairly quickly on the club's 'telemark' gear. When you sign up, please indicate how much skiing you've done so we get an idea of abilities.
The reason this trip is so early is because of the cheaper early-season lift ticket ($66). You can hire everything you need from the club, such as skis, boots and poles, and waterproof jackets and pants for $15 covering everything. As with all club trips, we pool cars from ANU, and transport costs (petrol/national park entry etc) will be around $30-35 per head.
Please register to express your interest (registering puts you on the interest list, it doesn't guarantee you a spot). I will contact you individually to see what level of ability you have and to sort out who can come on the trip. If you can't come on this one, I will keep your details so you can be notified about future trips this season.
