The snow is looking really good, so I would like to do a day trip to a beginner-friendly area. The aim is to do a little skiing and practice skills before advancing to bigger and better things such as snow-camping later in the season. The Farm Creek area near Guthega is excellent for this because it is easy for beginners but there are steeper slopes around if you'd like to try them out. The area also has great snow this time of year, yet is relatively protected in case of bad weather.
The trip limit will be between 5 and 8 (ski lessons will have priority for gear) and I would like to encourage a mix of beginners and "up and coming leaders":
- Beginners: you have done an ANUMC ski lesson this or past seasons, or we know you from a past trip, or you are a good alpine skier. Be sure to indicate this when you sign up (if you went on a past skiing trip with another leader please let me know). The pace will be beginner-friendly.
- Up and coming leaders: People with some experience around ANUMC thinking of running ski trips but haven't had much chance or confidence yet. No problem if you only consider yourself an average skier. This is a chance for skill building, especially if people like me aren't around the club forever! You can check out this good skiing area, get a feel for what running a ski trip is like, and have your questions answered.
As usual contact me directly if you have any questions -- Richard
Standard information:
- We car pool from ANU so you don't need your own car.
- All ski gear and some waterproof clothing may be hired from the gear store for $15 rental plus $50 refundable deposit.
- I have opened signups for an interest list with the actual places to be decided once the potential leaders have signed up.
Guthega to Paralyser trig and back.
