Snow camping is one of the big reasons a lot of us do cross-country skiing in Australia. Skiing is great by itself, but after a day's skiing it's a whole new experience to stay out in the wintery wilderness, often with a spectacular display of the Milky Way at night. And because the club has very good tents and sleeping bags, you can be sure of a warm night's sleep.
This trip is ideal if you have done a ski lesson with the club, or maybe come on one or two skiing trips already. When you sign up, please indicate the activities you've done with the club, and/or if you have done much alpine (downhill) skiing.
Also, this is a great opportunity for one or two 'up and coming' trip leaders (you know who you are).
As an extra attraction, I would like to do this trip from Dead Horse Gap, which means we don't have to leave too early on Saturday morning. We will have a relaxed start, then ski for 1-2 hours (beginners' speed) to a campsite. We can explore the local area in the afternoon. On Sunday morning, we can go for a ski before returning and packing up after lunch. A couple of hours later should take us back to the cars. So it is not a very long weekend overall.
As there is also a beginners' lesson this weekend, I may limit this trip to one car. As a result, all signups are only an 'expression of interest' until we can gauge the overall skill level and how many new leaders are coming. We will notify you in a day or two if you have a place.
DHG-campsite 1 hour north (by creek S of Ramsheads). Local skiing. Return to DHG via the walking trail.
