Don't let the end of the season end your canyoning! It's time to try dry(ish) canyoning.
The plan is to do Long Gulley Canyon in Bungonia, which should hopefully be dry enough to avoid being very cold. I've done this in the past and at most had a trickle of water, but if weather cooperates we might stay dry.
The plan is to leave Canberra at 8, arrive at the car park at the junction of Stan Jones Trail and Trestle Track Trail at 10ish. Heading east/south on Stan Jones Trail we'll head roughly 1.4km to the entrance into the canyon on the left if facing south. Past that there are 10 abseils, with the main abseil being 56m in length. The canyon ends at the Shoalhaven river, at which point we head left (north) roughly 2km to meet with the Trestle track. Expect to have a long day, with us likely being back at the cars after dark.
While this isn't a terribly hard canyon, shorter days will require a fast group. You must be comfortable abseiling and self-belaying.
See trip description.
