We're taking a punt that the new snow and this week's cold temps will give us some ice at Blue Lake. The road to Charlotte Pass should be open and the forecast is sunny and light winds. If there's no ice at Blue Lake, then this trip will just be a snowy bushwalk on the Main Range. We'll be leaving Canberra at 5am on Saturday and returning Sunday evening.
No prior ice climbing experience is necessary, but you will need to have done some climbing. A belay pass (or outdoor climbing experience) is a must.
There will most likely be a thin layer of snow on the ground and it will be very cold. It will be similar conditions to a mid-winter snow camping trip (maybe slightly worse due to the thin snow cover).
There will be a pre-trip at the gear store on Thursday at 6pm.
Walk the Blue Lake walking track and set up camp at Carruthers Ck. Ice climb at Blue Lake. Maybe also do some walks out to Carruthers, Sentinel and Watsons Crags, depending on snow cover.
