Granite, scrub and some seriously impressive views. The imposing Mt Gudgenby is a tough day walk in the beautiful Namadgi National park.
Who is the walk for?
This walk is suitable for fit masochists who enjoy some scrub bashing and rock scrambling.
The walk:
We will leave ANU at 7am and drive to the Yankee Hat car park to start the walk. From here, we will walk along firetrails for a few kilometers until we reach the base of Mt Gudgenby. We will take a very faint foot pad to the Gudgenby saddle and then go off track through dense scrub until reaching the Granite slabs and boulders that will take us to the top. The views on top are excellent. We will return the same way we came.
The fine print:
Please bring a rain jacket, a warm top for the summit and a headlamp just in case we have to return in the dark. These Items are mandatory!
Please give me an outline of your bushwalking experience when registering. This is not an easy walk.
The weather:
Cold… Windy… Snow (maybe)
The trip could be canceled as late as the day of if there is poor weather. The granite slabs can become quite slippery in the rain, making the final ascent dangerous.
Pre trip and transport:
We will NOT have a pre trip meeting. I will email participants a few days before the walk with the details. I will drive on the day.
