This morning I got inspired on how best to spend this Sunday - and my birthday! Chris Bradley and I are looking for three more bushwalkers to join us on this stunning and rewarding 20-km day walk to the top of the ACT’s second highest mountain (1857m) amid a landscape of sub-alpine woodland.
We will start our walk from Corin Dam and ascend the Stockyard Spur trail gaining 500m vertical within 2km. We will continue climbing until we reach the undulating Mt Franklin road, where we will continue on until we reach Pryors hut for a break. After our break, we will continue to that e Mt Gingera foot pad where we will ascend to the summit and enjoy the spectacular views and some lunch. We will retrace our steps all the way back to the car.
Trip requirements – Please bring the following items.
- Rain jacket
- 2 litres of water
- Warm top for the summit (it can get very cold and snowy)
- Snacks and some lunch
- Gloves (recommended)
- Waterproof boots
- Something to carry the above items in
This walk is suitable for fit beginners who can handle steep uphill walking, so I will prioritise those whom I have walked with. This will be a good introduction to some of the harder walks the highcountry has to offer, especially if you want to start getting involved in longer multiday walks. There is a total of 1150 vertical meters gained on this walk. Please note there will be snow for almost the entire walk so dress and gear up appropriately.

There will be no pre trip meeting for this walk. As for transport, Chris has kindly offered to collect and drop us at the main entrance of Burgmann College at ANU Campus. <https://burgmann.anu.edu.au/about/location-map>
PS. Special thanks to Stefan De Montis for his advice and trip description.
