A day trip to Leatherbarrel Creek this Sunday.
The plan is to leave Canberra on Sunday at 5 and start walking up to Leatherbarrel Creek from Deadhorse Gap at around 9am. The walk in should take 1.5-2hrs depending on the weather. We'll do a few laps, sticking to treed areas due to potentially unstable conditions in exposed areas. We'll head back out to the car at around 3pm and hopefully be back at the cars at 4pm or so before heading back to Canberra.
To join this trip you'll need to be relatively fit as we are probably covering over 1200m vertical. You need to be able to ski in moderately steep off piste conditions and be comfortable with skiing tree runs. You should be familiar with setting up and using AT gear. For this trip everyone will need to hire avy safety gear (shovel, beacon, probe) due to predicted high snowfall on Saturday. Please let me know if you have your own safety gear or if you don't know how to use it when you sign up. Remember to dress appropriately for an energetic backcountry trip - lots of layers that can be easily removed is a good idea. Remember to bring brekkie, lunch, plenty of snacks and water for the trip! Drivers will always appreciate snacks and treats for the drive too.
There will be a really short pre-trip at 5:45pm out the front of the gear store before we hire gear.
I will call you on Saturday night if the trip needs to be canceled due to bad weather so please enter your phone number in when you sign up!
