I'm heading back to the Warrumbungles, home of the best climbing in Australia. Adventurous day-long trad routes on the ancient volcanic remnants await the intrepid climber. The guidebook produced by the Sydney Rock Climbing Club gives a good introduction.
The climbing is a little serious - routes are long, and loose rock is not uncommon. You need to be a competent trad climber in order to lead here.
The plan is to drive up and walk and in to a campsite near Balor Hut (about a 1.5 hour walk) on Friday afternoon (we will set up camp around 11pm), climb from Saturday to Monday and then walk out and drive home on Tuesday. We'll split up in to separate teams on each day.
If you sign up I'll do my best to pair you with a climbing partner, but I can't guarantee it. Also, there is currently room to take one less-experienced climber (must be able to climb up to grade 19, but needn't be able to lead).
You'll need to bring climbing gear (two ropes, helmets, and basic self-rescue kit are essential), and camping gear and food for 3-4 nights.
If I haven't climbed with you before, please let me know about your experience level when you sign up.
Drive to Pincham Road carpark and walk to Balor Hut Campground on Friday afternoon. Continue camping here until Tuesday morning, Head out to climb on Crater Bluff and Belougery Spire, and Bluff Mountain until Tuesday morning. Return to Canberra late Tuesday night.
