Avoiding the Main Range track and the people on it, we will head off track, taking in some of Australia’s highest peaks and some of the country’s most beautiful Alpine vistas.
We will start the trip at Charlotte pass and head toward Mt Stilwell. From there we will head for the ruins of the old Stilwell restaurant. Following Kangaroo ridge, we will drop down to the Snowy River and follow it to its headwaters near Rams Head North. We will then Search out a protected camp for the night near Rams Head, Australia’s 4th highest mountain. On day 2 we will drop down to Cootapatamba hut and take the spur up toward Mt Kosciuszko. After Mt K we will descend from Muellers pass and follow the Snowy back to the track and the car.
