This stunning and rewarding 20km day walk to the top of the ACT’s second highest mountain (1857m) is a brilliant example of the regions sub-alpine woodland.
We will start our walk from Corin dam and ascend the Stockyard Spur trail gaining 500m vertical within 2km. We will continue climbing until we reach the undulating Mt Franklin road, where we will continue on until we reach Pryors hut for a break. After our break, we will continue to the Mt Gingera foot pad where we will ascend to the summit and enjoy the spectacular views and some lunch. We will retrace our steps all the way back to the car.
Trip requirements – Please bring the following items.
- Rain jacket
- 3 litres of water
- Warm top for the summit (it can get very cold)
- Snacks and some lunch
- Something to carry the above items in
This walk is suitable for fit beginners who can handle steep uphill walking. This will be a good introduction to what the high country has to offer, especially if you want to start getting involved in longer multiday walks. There is a total of 1150 vertical meters gained on this walk.
There will be no pre trip meeting for this walk. I will drive one car on the day and if someone else can drive another then that would be excellent. Please let me know if you can.
