Big Bogong, the Sleeping Lion, Mt Jagungal. This is an impressive mountain. Standing alone and surrounded by large open plains, Mt Jagungal tops out at 2062m ASL, commanding a 360 degree view of the NSW and ACT alps.
We start the walk at Round Mountain carpark and drop down to the Tumut river, passing Round Mountain Hut on the way. After crossing the Tumut we ascend the beautiful Farm Ridge to amble our way along it until descending again. After walking along the northern flanks of Mt Jagungal for a while, we head off track and start ascending the Sleeping Lion. We will descend the mountain and find a campsite close by for the night.
Day 2 will see us returning to the car via Round Mountain trail and possibly some off track walking to spice things up.
- Day 1 will be about 30km
- Day 2 will be around 15km
