The plan is to go to the fortress (https://www.thecrag.com/en/climbing/australia/gibraltar-peak-and-corin-road-crags/the-fortress) and spend a day climbing cracks. Top ropes will also be set up on the various climbs for people to get laps in on the climbs and practice jambing. If you are coming on to this trip the minimum expectation is that you know how to tie-in and safely give a top tope belay with either a mega-jul or ATC like device. Depending on how many experienced people I get signing up there is potential to even do a bit of crash course in placing trad gear and leading trad routes. Also there is a really cool off-width boulder that we will surely be punting on. And here is some inspiration from cedar wright for getting your thrutch on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aa7isZoeJ04
If you have trad gear and ropes, you're welcome to bring them; otherwise, I will be hiring out gear from the gear store if we do not have enough gear amongst ourselves. The minimum gear required for this trip is:
- Harness
- Climbing shoes (optional if you are a masochist)
- Belay device (Mega-jul preferrred)
- Helmet
- Crack gloves or tapes for making crack gloves (Also optional if you are a masochist)
Most of this gear can be hired out from the gear store except for crack gloves and tapes. At this point there is no pre-trip scheduled but if numbers get big enough there is a possibility I will run a pre-trip. Otherwise, feel free to email me or message me on facebook (karan gill) with any questions.
The plan is to leave from ANU sport at 8:00 am spend the day climbing and be back 7:00 pm.
Please do not attend the trip if, in the last 14 days, you have travelled to a hotspot, been in contact with anyone who has COVID-19, or have experienced any COVID-19 symptoms yourself.
Leave at 8am from ANU sport. Climb for the day. Arrive back at ANU sport by 7pm.
