Let's make the most of this prolonged dump of snow! The aim is to start from Guthega Power Station and ski to Schlink hut, where we'll camp overnight. We'll mostly traverse below the treeline through a fairly remote part of the High Country, and will see two other historic alpine huts along the way. The next morning the plan is to get up early and skin up the nearby slopes to get a couple of runs in before the trip back.
This trip is aimed at people who have skied before (not necessarily outside of a resort), are fit, and experienced with overnight hiking, and would like to try snow camping. No previous ski touring experience is required, but participants should be comfortable carrying a heavy pack at a reasonable pace. The trip will be 11km one way, so I hope to leave plenty time at the end of the day to set up camp.
When signing up, please briefly outline previous hiking/skiing experience. Registrations that fail to do so won't be considered. Trip numbers depend on available cars, so please also indicate whether you have an AWD/4x4 and/or are comfortable driving a 2WD with chains.
The club has as limited number of skis available that are in good condition, and there may be another trip running consecutively that weekend. This means we might need to hire additional AT gear from Mont, and split the cost across the group accordingly.
This trip subject to change or cancellation due to weather and COVID-19.
