Hello!
This is a bushwalking trip to Mount Gudgenby, a spectacular granite peak sitting just over 1700m above sea level. There will be plenty of beautiful granite to admire on this trip, with some rare places along the route where a very special and enigmatic texture may be visible within the feldspar grains of the rock.
This will be quite a tough walk! There will be a lot of bushbashing involved and some rock scrambling up smooth, exposed granite slabs required in the approach to the summit of Gudgenby. Total length of the walk is around 21 kms with around 900ms of vertical ascent. Note that we may end up walking ~23-24kms if we have to take my small car (which doesn't have enough clearance to cross hospital creek about 1-1.5km away from the Yankee Hat carpark, the starting point for this walk)
See this link for more info about the walk, and the route we will follow (we will follow the route set out in this link below):

Please Bring:
-Sun protection (hat, sunscreen etc)
-minimum 3L water
-lunch and plenty of snacks
-Rain jacket (even if no rain is forecast)
-head torch (even though we intend to finish before dark)
-Please wear appropriate footwear and also please wear gaiters!! There will likely be many snakes lurking about. I would also recommend long pants and a long sleeved shirt for this walk.
This is quite a difficult bushwalk so for safety reasons, I am only going to allow people who have experience walking these kinds of distances in this kind of terrain to come along! If you have never bushwalked before, this will definitely be a shock to you so this is not really suitable for beginners (sorry!)
When you sign up, please let me know your prior experience in bushwalking! Also please let me know if you have a car and can drive! Not that just signing up doesn't guarantee you a spot on the trip: If I don't know you, I'll contact you to chat to you individually about this trip/to assess whether it's safe for you to come or not depending on your experience level/fitness levels. I'm also looking for at least 1 person with some off track navigational skills to come along even though I'm relatively confident with the navigation to back me up in case I become unwell or make any errors!
I intend for the group size to be quite small given the difficulty of the walk (6-7 max depending on how many experienced bushwalkers sign up). I'll confirm the final group in the week before the walk.
Note: I may postpone the trip if the weather is incredibly adverse on Sunday (e.g. thunderstorms, heavy rain, extreme heat).
Depart from ANU sport at 5am in the morning, and drive to Yankee Hat Carpark. Walk to Mount Gudgenby and return back via the same route. Aim to arrive back in Canberra by 8pm.
