Macquarie Pass canyon is a moderate day trip not far from Canberra, located on the Illawarra Highway. There are nice descriptions and pictures here:

As with all the trips I plan to run, the aim is to explore the canyon environment. As water cuts deep into the earth, it creates a unique and beautiful realm of rock, waterfalls, streams and pools lit by sunbeams from high above. Part of the adventure is that we must lower ourselves by ropes into this world, and proceed by walking, swimming or even jumping along the length of the canyon. This day trip is a great opportunity to learn canyoning, and indeed trips such as this are essential before going on longer trips to the Blue Mountains to explore really deep and constricted canyons.
Macquarie Pass will likely be a canyon many club members will enjoy. However, because it's the start of the canyoning season, the focus of this trip is to explore the route and develop rope and safety skills. Please only sign up if you've come to a ropes practice activity and/or contacted Ivan or me first.
If this goes well, I hope to run the trip again later this summer, which will let more people have a go.
