Hello all :) I’m seeking expressions of interest for women and non-binary climbers who are eager to come on a climbing course over Easter in the Arapiles that will focus on trad anchors, self-rescue and multi pitch skills.
From the trip proposal:
The aim for this course is to advance the skills and safety knowledge of future leaders of the club, (who have demonstrated they have consistently participated in the WCI and show intentions of future participation in the club), in order to better equip them to give back to the club
Such a course advances climbing skills to a level where participants will have increased confidence and ability to teach others, and will be more competent in a wider range of climbing scenarios.
As this is not intended to be 'teaching' skills to participants, but more to 'fine-tune' already learnt skills to consolidate them to the standards accepted within the guiding industry, participants are expected to already have experience with what is taught on the course, or will have sufficient experience by start of course. To supplement this, I’ll be running (weather-permitting!) fortnightly outdoor trips to get all of our skills on the same page and to build up trust as climbing partners. So please by signing up also plan on coming to these :)
A quote and plan is provided below, but this will change depending on numbers:
5 day climbing course in Arapiles with Climb Co for up to 12 people
Day One: Setting up anchors for top rope, abseils, multipitch.
Day Two: Self-rescue. Prussicking, prussicking past a knot, abseiling past a knot, assisted hoist, unassisted hoist.
Day Three: Self-rescue. Lowering past a knot, assisted abseil with an injured climber. Revision of previous day.
Day Four: Multipitch trad lead instruction.
Day Five: Multipitch trad lead instruction
Quote for 12 people: $5,280 for 12 people
The ANUMC is kindly funding $250 per person up to $3000 for the trip. Please expect to be paying $200-300 yourself for the course, plus petrol/food etc
A condition of this funding is that it will be ‘paid-back’ to the club via passing on the knowledge that you gain in the future to the WCI. So please only sign up if you believe you can honour this commitment.
