In 2019 our attempt at the Eastern Arthurs traverse and Federation Peak (in SW Tasmania), partially funded by the ANUMC Adventure Fund, was thwarted by bushfires and then you-know-what. Three years later, the track has reopened so some of the same group is trying again.
We'll go in and out to Federation Peak via Farmhouse Creek (the only access route currently open), staying in Tasmania a week so we can pick good weather for the summit scramble. Number of days hiking will depend on conditions but probably in the range 3-5. If we have good weather days leftover some of us are keen to try Mt Anne as well.
Please be aware that this is a hard hike! The Moss Ridge section of the track is reputed to be one of the hardest on-track hikes in the country. And the final climb up Federation Peak is extremely exposed. At a grade 5 rock climb (Ewbank grade), it's easy enough that people don't usually carry in ropes, but fall from the scramble and you're dead. Here are some pictures of the crux of the scramble, a narrow ledge you need to traverse:

Only experienced bushwalkers on this hike. Preferably I've hiked with you before, or you have a good profile within the club. Signing up for the trip does not guarantee participation -- I'll want to have a chat with you first.
