The Blue Mountains are the centre of canyoning in Australia. Compared to regions near Canberra, Blue Mountains canyons are deeper, narrower and darker. The soft rock means creeks have cut deep slots into the earth, opening up a mysterious world accessible only by skilled and intrepid canyoners - not to mention a few water dragons and yabbies.
The aim on this trip is to get to three canyons with less driving required from Canberra. The canyons are close to townships and even accessed by tourist paths, but once we drop in to the canyons themselves we still require good skills and teamwork to complete them safely.
We will aim to do Empress Canyon on the first day, and Juggler and Grand Canyons combined on the second day. All three are short - Empress and Grand have just one abseil each, with very interesting canyon formations and swims. Juggler is more open with several abseils, but straightforward and mostly out of the water.
Depart Canberra approx. 9am Saturday, as Empress is only a short afternoon. We will start Juggler/Grand early on Sunday, to allow us to return to Canberra not too late.
The trip limit is 4, with spaces for a combination of up-and-coming leaders and a possible beginner (with other outdoor experience). If you haven't come on a trip with me before, or come to a ropes skills session at the wall, please email me on richardsalmons at gmail dot com to discuss the trip.
