Not able to go on the KV trip but still want to climb? Come and clip some bolts :)
NOTE: the vast majority of basic club gear will be going on the KV trip, so everyone signing up will need to own all their personal gear (helmet, harness, shoes, belay device, carabiners, personal safety e.g. sling/PAS). We will also need enough of our own ropes to have one for each belay pair (or near enough), so let me know if you have a rope when you sign up!
Let me know if you are able to drive for the trip when you sign up. Also let me know if you have an AWD/4WD, if we decide on Mt Coree the last bit of the drive can get quite demanding, but isn't strictly necessary.
We'll be going to either Mt Coree or Hollywood, depending on weather and preferences. Check out both on the crag and let me know what you think:
Hollywood: https://www.thecrag.com/en/climbing/australia/new-south-wales-and-act/australian-capital-territory/area/11831941
Mt Coree: https://www.thecrag.com/en/climbing/australia/mount-coree
Mt Coree has a nicer variety of climbs in the teens to low twenties, Hollywood is mostly quite steep (and very fun) with just a handful of climbs below 20. We'll want a rather clear forecast without a lot of wind for Mt Coree, it's very exposed up there, and if it's raining much we'll have to call the whole trip off, neither crag is good in rain.
Experience
Ideally the participants on this trip will be more or less self sufficient sport climbers. Most of you should know how to lead and clean a route.
We can take a couple of people with less experience than this, let me know what your climbing experience is when you sign up.
Gear
As mentioned you will need to bring your own personal gear:
Harness
Helmet
Belay device
Shoes
Personal safety (like a sling or PAS)
And between us we will need half as many ropes as people, and a good stack of quickdraws. Let me know if you have either of these when signing up. Bring plenty of water and some lunch and snacks, a jumper and windbreaker are probably a good idea, we'll be gaining a lot of elevation from Canberra.
Plan
Meet at ANU sport at 7:30am, we'll drive from there up to the crag of choice. We'll spend most of the day climbing, eating lunch at the crag, and return to ANU sport when we've had enough, arriving by 6pm at the latest. We will probably get back significantly earlier than that.
Forecast is looking good at this stage, so get keen, and hit me up if you have any questions.
