The Canberra Balloon Spectacular is on again. For those who don't know it is an annual hot air balloon event held over nine days each March. Each day (weather permitting) the balloons inflate and lift off from the lawns of Old Parliament House. If you want to see these balloons AND you want to kayak then this is the trip for you.
We will meet at the boat shed at 5:30am sharp to be on the water for 6:00 am. We will paddle out past the museum and towards Old Parliament House where the balloons will inflate and lift off around 7am. It will take some time to get the group on the water and out there so please come on time. If you are late we will leave without you. We will be back by 9am at the latest.
Please bring $5 for kayak use, warm clothes, a head torch, a water bottle, snacks, and if you like a waterproof camera (or your phone with a dry bag).
This trip is weather dependent. The balloons won't fly in too much or little wind, or in rain. If the weather turns obviously bad I will cancel in advance, but the organisers don't announce whether the balloons are flying until 6:15am on the day. If this is the case we will already be on the water, but it will still be a nice paddle.
This trip will be very popular. Signing up does not guarantee a spot. You will receive a confirmation if you are on the trip by Monday.
If you haven't kayaked with me before please detail your kayaking experience and swimming ability in your registration.
This trip will be led by Alannah.
