Who's keen to get jamming in granite cracks?
EDIT: Going to the fortress due to experience level of our group. I have updated safety info accordingly.
Hill 1306 has a variety of delightful lines, some delicate, some brutish, come sample them with me!
It will be a relatively hard day out, with a 45min uphill bush bash approach, followed by as much climbing as we can manage while the light lasts, and a bash back downhill to the cars. Ideally we'll be grovelling up an offwidth or two as well, which is rather demanding.
The Plan
Leave ANU sport by 7:30am, driving out the the parking on Corin Road (about an hour). Short walk up to the crag, exit before the sun sets, and drive along home :)
Experience Level
Ideally trip participants will have some familiarity with Trad climbing, but everyone must be comfortable lead belaying and trusting their leader's anchor building. Solid outdoor climbing experience is highly recommended. Numbers are dependent on confident trad leaders.
Gear
Let me know if you have access to any Trad protection, we'll be hiring a bunch but more is usually welcome. Every climber must have their own:
- Helmet
- Harness
- Shoes
- Safety (sling at minimum)
- At least 2 locking carabiners
- Nut tool
- Belay device
If you have prusiks bring them too. All of the above can be hired from the gear store. Everyone should also have a hat, sunscreen, food, plenty of water (recommend more than 2L) and a can-do attitude. Recommend a long-sleeve shirt and sports tape to make tape gloves, granite hurts without them.
