Hi all,
After a first visit years ago as part of a Rogaine, I have long yearned to return to the very seldom visited Tarlo River National Park. With the snowies getting cold and Namadgi closed for some aerial baiting, what better time than to visit this National Park. The trip will be a two day bushwalk, with a mix of on (old fire trails, possibly regrown) and off track walking. There is limited public access to the National Park so we will use the main public access off Towrang Road.
This trip is suitable for people who have bushwalked overnight before, are comfortable with off track walking in the cold and are fairly self sufficient. I can cater to one or two less experienced bushwalkers (subject to a few other experienced members joining). The route will be a combination of these two walks https://www.johnevans.id.au/wp/20-february-2018-tarlo-river-national-park-southern-section/ and https://www.johnevans.id.au/wp/8-august-2017-tarlo-river/ - for a total of around 25-30km across the weekend. There are some interesting conglomerate rock outcrops that we will pass on the way in. Water to be taken from the Tarlo river - treating water is recommended. Note if the scrub is thicker/going slower we may camp at one of the side creeks on the way to the river.

Expect overnight termperatures between -1 and 10 degrees (plan for it to be cold!) and daytime temps of 10-18 degrees this time of year. You will need normal overnight bushwalking gear, with clothing and sleeping gear suitable for cold nights.
Note that due to a work commitment the pre-trip will be on Tuesday evening (as opposed to the normal Thursday evening). Numbers will be limited to 6, and preferably two drivers. Note that the route is sealed all the way to where we will park. Note I haven't done this route myself but have explored the northern area of this park as part of a rogaine.
When signing up, please also email me with details of your bushwalking experience if I haven't walked with you before. Failure to do this will result in my deregistering you from the trip!
