Me and Hiroki are planning to summit Mount Bimberi over the upcoming long weekend. Plans are to start at the Orroral valley tracking station, hike approximately 20 km to Murray flat campground, then depending on how we feel either summit on the first or second day with a nice leisurely walk back on the 2nd day. Given that there'll be at least one day with over 30 km of hiking it should be quite a hard hike but nothing insane.
Hopefully have a pre-trip meeting next Wednesday at the gear store, just to flesh out the plans and get any gear we might need, as well as organise camping permits as we'll be in the Bimberi Wilderness area and will be free camping. Currently limited to only 3 people as thats all the seats I have left after you include myself and Hiroki, however may increase the cap depending on logistics/finding another car etc. Either way should be a really fun hike in one of the ACT's most remote areas, I can certainly think of a worst way to spend a long weekend !! :)
Edit: Just a quick gear list of stuff you'll need, that you should be able to hire from the gear store if needed
- Tent
- Sleeping bag (shouldn't be too cold, so a zero degree sleeping bag should do)/Sleeping mat
- Cooking utensils, (stove, pot (only one night, so no need to "cook" food per se just reheat it)
- Water container - 2L should suffice, we'll be crossing a few streams along the way so ample opportunity to restock
- Compass - I've got one but having more than one is always a good idea
- SOCKS!!! - to quote forrest gump - "Take care of your feet", well be crossing a few streams so bring more than you think you'll need
