Backcountry skiing is very different from resort skiing. If you’ve wondered what it’s like and are thinking about giving it a go, this information session is for you.
A venue will be confirmed closer to the date.
At ANUMC, we explore the outdoors year-round, and winter is no exception. Our trips take advantage of the high country’s snow-covered landscapes, offering a unique way to experience the mountains:
- Enjoy the beauty of the snow-covered wilderness, from sunset to sunrise.
- Learn essential outdoor skills like navigation, weather awareness, and first aid, alongside skiing.
- Connect with others through shared challenges, whether navigating snowy forests or setting up camp in the cold.
If you love outdoor activities like bushwalking, canyoning, or climbing, come learn how to keep exploring in winter:
- Find out when and where we ski, from June to as late as November.
- Learn how to get involved—if you already have outdoor experience, there are trips suited for you.
- If you’re new to skiing, we’ll cover how to get started with cross-country lessons.
- If you have experience in both outdoor adventures and skiing (e.g., blue runs at a resort), Alpine Touring could be a great option. No need to learn a new ski technique, but strong outdoor skills are important.
- You can also try out the dying but still truly excellent art of telemark skiing.
- Check out different types of ski gear—we’ll have some on hand for you to see.
This info session is open to everyone—no club membership required to attend. However, you’ll need to be a member to join trips. If you’re interested and a club member, please sign up so we have an idea of numbers.
