Forecasts promise a fantastic early and low altitude dump of snow up to 75cm this weekend. If the snow cover holds, I'd like to do some skiing in Northern Kosciuskzo next weekend. The rough plan is to ski from the Snowy Mountains Hwy (10km return, on fire trail) and if people are doing well, continue to Witzes Hut (total 18km return, this part off-trail, includes a creek crossing). This plan may change depending on snow cover. However regardless of final plan this is a very flat part of the NP, so think a bushwalk on skis, rather than carving turns! Any downhills will be gentle.
You should have some previous skiing experience, downhill or cross-country. This is not a trip for complete beginners.
For this trip, I recommend hiring NNN-BC "light touring" gear at Rhythm in Cooma: $50/day. Therefore no pre-trip at the gear store. (Only other cost is petrol, which I've estimated at $30/person.)
Note this trip is highly snow dependent. I will make a final call latest Thursday on whether to proceed with the trip.
