[Update 21 July]
The forecast for this weekend looks great for snow but a bit windy for the alpine, so the tentative plan is to switch to Sunday and to aim for a ski tour out of Guthega instead of Thredbo.
The revised plan is to start at Guthega Dam and tour north up the Guthega River. We will cross the river and head up the same gully towards Consett Stephen Pass before ascending most of Mt Tate. We will then ski the Tate East Face, Gill Knob Glades and Pondage Glades (or in reverse order, if that makes more sense with the weather situation).
If the wind forecast drops then we will go back to the original plan for the Twin Valleys.
[original post]
We had a great day recently skiing the "South Twin" of the Twin Valleys northeast of Thredbo resort. This trip will aim to ski the "North Twin" or furthermost of the Twin Valleys.
The plan is to skin from the top of the Kosciusko Chairlift (backcountry access pass $50) to the ruins of the old Stillwell Restaurant between Kangaroo Point and Mt Stillwell. We will then drop into the North Twin and then, if we have time, try another run just to the east known as "Trapyard".
This is an intermediate level trip. You must have skied in the backcountry before on AT skis, be confident on steepish terrain (up and down) and have a reasonable level of fitness.
I am not sure whether we need a pretrip meeting - it will depend on who signs up for the trip and their familiarity with club ski gear.
I have scheduled this trip for Saturday 26 July, but we might switch to the following day if warranted by the forecast.
